For the most part, I agree with Inez, though I would
go one step further and just get rid of the gTLDs entirely once the conversion to
ccTLDs is complete (except maybe for truly international bodies like the UN).
Of course, from a trade-mark perspective, if the conversion to ccTLDs just replicates
the gTLD system at a country-level, the trade-mark problems still exist because if
someone had registered "NORTEL" for toothpaste, they might object to the telecoms
giant Nortel getting "Nortel.com.ca". Why should Nortel get the name when under
Canadian trade-mark law both could be equally entitled to use "NORTEL"?
