There have in the past and continue
to be serious issues about children accessing porn on the net. I believe in
general that the purveyors of porn, like most business people, have an interest remaining
within the bounds of the law. However the speed at which the internet is growing
and transforming and the sluggishness, with which laws are enacted has led to many
disputes. I have found that the internet has done, in general, a fine job of
self regulation. Often technical "fixes" have provided solutions to unenforceable
laws. In this context I would like to propose the following domain, xxx.
I strongly believe that most operators of porn sites would willingly gravitate to
this new, domain. In addition I believe current holders of porn sites should
be allowed to migrate their old .com (or other domain). to the new .xxx, before others
would be allowed to register for names in the xxx domain, in order to offer porn
operators an incentive for moving to the xxx domain early. The existence
of the xxx domain would allow nations to pass laws forcing all porn sites into the
xxx domain and easily regualte access. I understand we would all like to see the
internet "clean" but in the interest of liberty I feel we must allow those with opinions
or preferences we find unpleasant should still have a place, a place clearly delineated.
I would imaged browser manufactures would gladly place simple blocking software,
that would allow parents to regulate access to the xxx domain. I think we can
all agree the current filtering software (or censorware) is not satisfactorily doing
