Here's an important point that no one has adequately considered: If
iodesign's registrants had not invested time, money and elbow grease in pushing for
.web, the .web domain wouldn't be such a popular choice right now as a potential
gtld. Iodesign's registrants have been "pioneers" who, through their trailblazing
and letter-writing, have helped .web to be a top candidate as a testbed domain.
If iodesign's registrations are not added to the root server, then these people will
have done all the pioneer's work with none of the benefits. This is not
what capitalism is about anywhere in the world.
As an intellectual property
lawyer, I am familiar with a concept called "pioneers preference". For example,
those investors who gambled on new telecommunications frequencies in the 1980's and
1990's were then rewarded with licenses to use those frequences. Iodesign's
registrants are entitled to the same benefit UNDER THE LAW as the telecommunications
pioneers.
.Web is a special case -- unlike any other possible gtlds like
.biz, .shop., .banc, .store. etc. Iodesign's registrations must, under the
legal concept of pioneer's preference, be entered into the root server.
