It has merit. But as the number of gTLDs grow into the 1000's (seriously), so will
the number of registrars. Network Solutions greed knows no bounds and I agree with
you something should be done about it. Maybe the government should break NS up like
they are doing to MS ;-) I will have to think about it more. The major thing that
needs changing is the DNS. I had a idea for it to include a managed heirarchy. This
would involve people choosing where their domain name should be linked to in it.
A sort of short and long name - on a self managed directory. Any false entries, ie
sex sites put in wrong catagory - would be taken off owner. It would not replace
search engines. Just make people and things easier to find.
