And what precisely do you think will happen with ANY
new gTLD to come out? People will be stepping over each other to get at the good
domains. And a handful of people in this world--corporations included--will have
scripts operating on multiple computers, acceessing the databases and buying domains
en masse. If you were to scrub IOD's database, or start fresh with another TLD, you
would find far fewer people owning far more domains.
As someone else said, why
would you want to begrudge registrants who bought .webs in good faith in an open
market, according to IANA's authorization? IOD has taken registrations slowly over
time--and many people had a shot at domains. I would hazard to say that there are
thousands of IOD registrants, spread out across the database.
It will be MUCH worse
when .biz or .shop opens its doors in great anticipation--and about 40-150 people
worldwide are able to acquire just as many domains as IOD has registered to thousands
of people. It doesn't matter whether or not the exact time is known. Scripts will
be running for their masters in their sleep, non-stop.
