Bartender,
man. . .
You said it all. People calling for this kind legislation regarding "ownership"
are, in the end, calling for oppressive measures that can only damn themselves.
Telling
a person he can only buy one car--or 10 cars. . . and then requiring that he drive
them all on a regular basis from the word "Go" is indeed totalitarian.
Telling
a person they can only open one store--and not 100--is, again, oppressive.
And all
in the name of what? Fairness?? This is a clever reversal of logic, and a bastardization
of the concept of Freedom. Freedom is not legislation. Freedom is the abolishment
of legislation. Freedom is the government (and ICANN CAN be seen as the Internet
Government) providing the forum, and then STEPPING BACK.
The sort of socialism and interference that Rebekka calls for has NEVER
helped this world.
Freedom of Ownership is the first freedom that must be protected, even over the Freedom
of Speech--for the right to HAVE things (a house, a car, a store, a web-store)is
more basic to a person's day-to-day existence than anything else.
I have about 20 .coms--but I simply
can't get to them all at the same time. I want to develop them gradually, and with
regard to quality. I still have my day job, and there are just so many hours in my
day. I won't be able to get to them all within 90 days--or within a year, perhaps.
Who the hell is Rebekka or ICANN to tell me they are therefore no longer mine?!
When we buy a brick and mortar
storefront--do we have to promise the government that it will be open within 90 days--under
threat of having the store TAKEN from us??
What kind of world do YOU want to live in, Rebekka?
Do me a
favor, and construct that world in your own backyard; and don't pollute my world
with yours--or your ideology.
