Despite ICANN's "little guy"
view of IOD, I still think IOD is the most deserving of the .web registry.
As far as IOD's resources are concerned, IOD can always look to outside sources
for capital in the beginning stages of the .web going live. That capital can
be used to attract the biggest and brightest personnel knowledgable in all aspects
of registry management, whether it is technical, administrative, etc. Once
the cash pours in through .web registrations, services can always be enhanced further.
In
response to IOD having only 20,000 registrations in five years, why should it have
more? According to my understanding, webtld.com - the source for .web pre-registrations
has not been marketed on television, radio, print, yellow pages, Internet, etc.
The only way people found it was either researching Image Online or through ICANN
news. If you launch as mass marketing campaign for .web preregistrations, the
20,000 figure would have possibly been 200,000. It is not feasible, however,
to market .web when in actuality it is still not viewable to the world.
Thanks!
