Verisign as a commercial entity have an obligation to shareholders
to make a profit, which in turn will lead them to make decisions
within shareholder memory, which is generally short.

They have an obligation to maximise their profit, which in this case
endangers the infrastructural stability of internet communication, as
they have demonstrated the ability and intent, to use the power that
they have to make changes with out consultation or warning to the
affected user groups.

The conflict is demonstrated in the Verisign's response to ICANN
which essentially states that they will not stop their use of
wild cards until forced to do so, regardless of the costs that it
incurs for any other party, and with no concern for how any other
party may have problems arising from their unilateral decision.

This conflict of interest clearly shows that either a non-profit
entity is required to control the Domain Name space for .com and .net
or that at the least constraints are placed that require agreement
from the affected community before this level of change is made.

Verisign should be required to stop the wild-carding of the .com and
.net domain as soon as is legally possible and should also have the
control of the this tlds removed until such time as they can be
constrained to act as responsible network entities.
