I welcome the initiative by WHO and regard it as a step in the right direction.  However, I am cautious about attempts to set criteria for entry to the domain without reference to, and consultation with the various efforts currently underway in the arena of eHealth ethics and quality of health information.

I see many reasons why the WHO should not set up itself as a gatekeeper or an arbiter of quality of health information.  I see the
WHO as a partner, facilitator and a patron of the stakeholders' efforts to enhance quality, protect and educate the public and set and raise the standards for eHealth as a whole.

WHO can ensure the widest possible consensus and global reach.  The Steering Group of the Internet Healthcare Coalition's 'eHealth Code of Ethics' would be happy to play a full part and collaborate with the WHO to secure those goals.
