Yahoo! Inc. ("Yahoo!") hereby submits this comment expressing its
support for the Motion on Domain Name Tasting seeking amendments to the
various Registry Agreements which will modify practices regarding the
functioning of the Add Grace Period ("AGP") approved by a super majority
of the GNSO Council on 17 April 2008. Yahoo! is a leading global
Internet brand and one of the most trafficked Internet destinations
worldwide. With more than 500 million users around the globe, Yahoo! is
focused on powering its communities of users, advertisers, publishers,
and developers by creating indispensable experiences built on trust. The
company is headquartered in Sunnyvale, California and has a presence in
more than 20 markets and regions worldwide. As such, Yahoo! has been
greatly affected by the abuses of the AGP associated with domain name
tasting. Yahoo! is pleased to see the GNSO Council take affirmative
steps to thwart the current abuses of the AGP that have been identified.
Yahoo! is in support of the current Motion and encourages the ICANN
Board to implement the solution to the current abusive practices
associated with the AGP set forth in this Motion. Yahoo! believes that
the solution set forth in this Motion, combined with budget mechanism
that ICANN is seeking to put into place, is a good first step towards
thwarting abusive practices in the DNS. And, should these measures
prove ineffective in eliminating these abusive practices, Yahoo!
strongly encourages the ICANN Board to work with the affected
stakeholders to craft additional solutions to end the gaming of ICANN
policies in the DNS.
