Hello all,
During the Singapore week, on multiple occasions during meetings I attended
involving the GAC and ALAC, some attention was given to keeping as much
funds as possible in the developing world. While not all discussions may
necessarily result in JAS recommendations in time for its next report, there
is consideration being given to a number of possible scenarios, including:
- Creation of co-operative registry service providers in developing
economies, which benefits multiple objectives of only one is directly
financial
- Development of a combination of best practices, documentation,
application templates and mentoring system that could dramatically reduce
dependence on (and cost of) outside consultants
Both of these items could be worthy qualifiers for the fund established by
the Board resolution.
The flip-side of reducing obstacles is capacity building, which is one of
the key objectives of the GAC's interest in applicant support. Don't be
surprised if the term shows up -- multiple times, maybe -- in future
Advisory Council advice to the Board and JAS-WG on this issue.
- Evan
