the .edu, .gov, .com, .net, .mil, .edu, etc are traditionally, and by right of development
and primary funding are traditionally reserved for the use of US based companies/organizations.
(For 15 years the "internet"/DARPANET/whatever you want to call it was primarily
used by US institutions with very few foreign institutions connected, and then only
at extremely slow speeds usually via satellite. I've been using ARPANET/etc./ad
nauseum since the '80s, and remember x.25 as some ultrahigh speed connection, and
a certain friend of mine pioneering internet porn by tying up many terminals every
day d/ling porn... }:) if you want abc for australian broadcast company it should
be abc.co.au, hence the 2 letter country codes.
