The URL-notation is the problem |

I agree with smckoens comments about the conflict with trademarks and gTLDs. The
reason for the conflict is the current need (or wish) for using widely recognized
words (the trademark) as part of the URL. The URL is just a part of the current
user interface (UI). In a short number of years, the URL will be replaced by something
very different, something that wont require users to use a keyboard. Maybe a laser
pointer directed at the TV screen, a few search phrases muttered into a microphone
or moving an item in front of a web camera. Whatever method used, intelligent agents
and search engines will automagically find the correct site for you, no matter what
obscure domain name the company has chosen. When that happens, the DNS will again
be used for its original purpose: A distruted, hierachial managed database for mapping
names to IP addresses- not a marketing tool.
