Well, John, it's like this - ICANN is a California corporation, governed by the laws
of the state. Surely you aren't suggesting that ICANN ignore the laws that control
it's existence, are you? Reckless disregard of it's legal foundation would be HIGHLY
unprofessional, bad for the image of the organization, and dangerous in leaving the
organization and its board open to legal action. It would also be just plain ethically
wrong. To be a "legitimate" body, ICANN has to work within the laws that give it
organizational legitimacy - pretty simple, really, and I'm sure the officers and
