Subject:	Why require ANY threshold of support?

I think that Eric expressed it very well: "the election is the proper mechanism for filtering candidates rather than the nomination process."  Both the 10% requirement and the restriction that only one nominee may be supported by a member are much too restrictive for the nomination process. What valid reasons are there for these restrictions except lack of trust in the membership to elect qualified candidates? Chuck Gomes
