Despite who wins .web, all pre-registrations from IOD
should automatically become actual registrations since they were registered in good
faith. As long as .web is chosen as one of the new TLD's, an individual
pre-registering a .web name anywhere on the Internet where it is legitimate should
be able to secure the .web domain name if and when .web is live to the world.
I personally registered a couple of .web domain names through IOD in the hopes of
securing and building web pages for the domains I selected.
Individuals who pre-registered
.web names should be rewarded and not wiped out of the database as a couple of people
suggested. The .web database should be transfered over to the company who ends
up running the .web registry.
If an individual acquires stock in a IPO through
company X or through company Y or through company Z, that individual owns the stock
regardless of what company he or she acquired the stock from when the stock is made
public.
ICANN, please do the right thing, and reward the individuals who predicted
far in advance that the .web domain would become live sooner or later. Remember
20,000 .web pre-registrations at $35/each through IOD cost us over half a million
dollars. Rarely, do individuals give away half a million dollars without something
in return.
