The Oklahoma land rush is not really a fair analogy. Perhaps my use of the term "preregistration"
was misleading. It is "preregistration" to the extent that the dot web extension
has not yet been officially approved. However, this was not open only to government
officials or staff members of the registrar. It was open to anyone.
The situation is more like someone who has paid in advance for a hotel room,
arrived, and then was told that his room was given to someone who wanted it after
he had already paid for it. When one pays for something, he most certainly has the
right to expect it (should it be approved as in the case of the dot webs). There
was no favoritism here.
