Marc,I agree with you: there is still quite a lot of
space in .net and .org and you could raise the availability about 30 times, if you
allowed names up to 257 characters.
But instead of using 257 character domain names,
why don't we go back and start using the IP address numbers again?
Words were chosen,
because they were easier to remeber, but now they grow too long to be easy to remember.
Couldn't
we just stop the recognition of gtld names? Everybody would get equal rights then
and no so-called trademark infringments could occur anymore! (Except if P& G claims
to have a trademark on 111.111.111.11 ;;-))
I don't think that anybody would like
this solution. Neither average Joe, nor CocaCola. Strange, isn't it?
But in order
not to get too unfair, we could at least stop asking people to register 63 character
long tlds and be happy with it.
Therefore it's worth while allowing new gtlds ...
...
but without letting some of the trademark lawyers have the goldrush end in their
pockets, please.
