      There is controversy over the semantics.  However, the TLD .EVENT is claimed by Quasar.net and has resolved to the ORSC rootzone since 1999, I believe.  It is an active registry, as are several others such as .home, .web, .biz and others mentioned in other posts.  Quasar has others for which there is no ICANN application, such as .here, .mart, .this and others.  It is my hope that ICANN will wake up to the fact that adoption of existing TLD's is wrong and has the potential to disenfranchise existing domain name holders and/or destroy legitimate businesses.  It could also place ICANN in a tenuous legal position for restraint of trade, IMO or other areas and would certainly invite challenge.
