My Lynn,
Let's look at the math. Right now Afilias is say 98% of the market.
Let us say that Afilias is given .info, IOD is given .web, and
Name-space is given .shop.
Now, let us say that .Com,
.Net, and .Org have 25,000,000 names registered. Lets say that .info will garner
another 5,000,000.
Lets say that .shop garners 5,000,000
and .web achieves 15,000,000. (Not overnight - it takes time)
The total pool is 50,000,000 names. The Afilias portion of the
total pie will drop from 98% to 60%.
The other
40% would be direct competitors.
This is a far better
competitive ratio than that which had been enjoyed by Microsoft over the past year.
Everybody makes money. There are many new consumer choices.
There is vastly enhanced competition. And so on.
BTW: Do not feel sorry for Afilias if their .com market is saturated.
The value of .com is not the registration market; it is the re-registration market.
