$3.50 cost vs. NSI's $6 |
Message: |

NSI charges $6 because that is the fee they settled on when their exclusive contract
expired and they were forced to open their registry to registrar competition.I
work in the domain name space and have gained a lot of knowledge about NSI, .tv,
.ws, .cc, and other companies. .tv is the newest registry and has the most
state-of-the-art equipment. It is a small company that runs lean and has talent;
the company isn't burdened by a behemoth corporate infrastructure. The $3.50 price
is probably along the lines of what everyone should be charging but of course it
would be natural to see most applicants latch on to the industry-standard $6 wholesale
price that NSI currently reaps. My sense is .tv has a better handle on the
economics (and their costs) and is simply trying to be as competitive as possible. I
applaud their efforts and the philosophy the're embracing of low-cost, widely-available
access with no huge middle-man markups. -B
