>FYI, since my company owns the trademarks - my.web, host.web, and portal.web,
I am confident that I will be able to claim it through the Afilias Sunrise Period.<The
USPTO trademark database shows no matches for any of those trademarks. Even if you
were to file them now, you would not be able to claim them during the sunrise period
because they would have been registered after October 2, 2000 and they would not
have national effect. Please see the following in the Afilias application: "owners
of any subsisting trademark or service mark registration having national effect (i.e.
no United States state trademark applications or foreign equivalents) and that
issued prior to October 2, 2000 will be eligible to register a domain name that is
identical to its mark, using ASCII characters only." The Afilias sunrise period
system has built-in safeguards, such as the ones listed above, to keep individuals
like you from registering trademarks with the sole intent of abusing the sunrise
period to "steal" generic domain names.
