i'll admit that you have a valid point. i do support
.web preregistrations because i believe IOD has worked hard and deserves this opportunity.
before i preregistered my own .web i had some confusion too. i had to do some research
to find out what the word on these preregistrations were. after finding some articles
i decided to risk my $35. so i admit that a lot of people who visited the site probably
were unsure of the system. no doubt that if an 'official' announcement was made that
.webs could be preregistered there would be a much more people registering and it
would be 'fairer'. obviously once icann announces that new gtlds are available it
will be on the front page of all the news websites and it will reach a ton of people
who never knew about IOD. i admit ive never seen anything about IOD .web preregistrations
widely visible on even a tech news website. nonetheless IOD has worked hard and i
think that they deserve to get at least something out of this.
