Subject: support for dot union domain from the UK's TUC

The TUC is the national centre for trade unions in the UK. We represent nearly 7 million workers in more than 75 trade unions.

We strongly support the creation of a .union tld. This is one of the strongest applications for a new domain. These are just some of the reasons:

1) there is a clear need for the new domain. Unions are clearly distinct organisations and exist throughout the world.

2) the internet already plays an important role in the work of unions and is increasing on a daily basis.

3) the union movement has a clear infrastructure and is able to effectively administer a new domain.

4) unions are undoubtedly an important part of civil society, and the granting of a tld to unions would demonstrate clearly thast ICANN wishes the net to serve citizens as well as commercial organisations.

5) there has been extremely effective consultation and preparation by the ICFTU for this bid. It clearly represent the international view of trade union organisations.

It is hard to see arguments against this application other than from those who simply oppose trade unionism.
