You are right in pointing out that many of the names name.space has suggested are not viable alternatives as gTLD's.  I am not aware however, that the original intent of ICANN was to limit the applications to one tld per company.  What it says is something to the effect that each application has to materially be the same, no matter how many you aply for.  So you can have, as ICANN describes it, a TLD "stream" in which the multiple names you apply for are all described and justified, and marketed under the sam emission, plan, etc.

It seems to me that name.space either had no idea how to read the application guidlines, or they just didn't care.  Either way, it doesn't exactly make them seem a "sterling" choice as a registry.
