Subject: OUR CHILDREN NEED A SAFE GREENSPACE

  To Whom It May Concern:

I would like to voice my total support for .Kids Domains, Inc.  I applaud them for their commitment and dedication to providing a safe environment for children on the Internet.

Being the owner and executive director of Yosemite Sierra Summer Camp, a summer camping program for children between the ages of 8-16 years old, we have the awesome privilege of working with hundreds of children and their families.  Nearly 100% of the children that attend our program are actively on the web.  In fact, EVERY family that registered to our 2000 summer season owns a computer and has Internet access.  This statistic astounded us.  Further, approximately 75% of the children have admitted to viewing pornography at one time or another on the web.  This also astounded us.

Thus, on behalf of my family and all the families at Yosemite Sierra Summer Camp, we 100% endorse .Kids Domain, Inc. for seeking to create a space on the internet that is restricted and monitored to subject matter that is suitable for children.  We believe having a safe greenspace will provide “choice” to parents and children alike.  You see, unrestricted Internet does not provide a choice to parents- it would be nice to have the alternative of a monitored space that our children can go to freely.  All other unrestricted space can and already is available (hopefully, we are escorting our children).  If the entertainment industry (TV and Cinema) is mandated to employ a censorship and rating program (G, PG, PG-13, R, X, NR), why are we so afraid of restrictions for the internet?

There are so many wonderful attributes about the Internet.  It is an astounding tool for commerce, education and communication.  For the most part, from my experience, there are good resources at our fingertips.  However, the world of pornography has invaded the web and it will not go away under the current method of unrestricted Internet.  Please allow a monitored and restricted space for children.

Sincerely,
Steve Kuljis
Executive Director
Yosemite Sierra Summer Camp
