Cooperatives have been an important form of business in many sectors of the economy historically.  As member owned and member controlled businesses they often offer goods and services that investor oriented firms will not offer.  In other cases cooperatives play an important role as "competitive yardstick."

Cooperatives as more important in our economy than ever before.  As firms increase in size as a result of mergers and acquisitions it is all that much more important for a strong cooperative pressence in the economy so that the public has choices.

A TLD .coop will be very important for cooperative businesses to remain competitive in this economy that is quickly becoming more and more influenced by e-commerce.  In turn, this will be beneficial for the public as a whole.
