Subject: Requesting new Internet suffix for electric co-ops

Message:

As a rural, consumer-owned electric cooperative serving over 13,000 members, Tri-County EMC works hard to improve the quality of life of the people living in the rural areas.  We strive to provide the best services possible.  And, we operate under the International Cooperative Alliance cooperative principles such as local and democratic member control. Through the years, this has earned us the trust of the people we serve.

By using the ".co-op" Internet suffix, consumers will be able to identify ourselves as a non-profit entity, helping us to create awareness of our mission. Currently we use ".com" which is inappropriate and doesn't communicate our mission.

There are 750,000 co-ops worldwide with 725 million members.  If effective, ".co-op TLD would apply to a wide range of businesses across the globe.

Please consider this request to approve .co-op.

Sincerely,
Margaret A. Morris
Communications Specialist, Tri-County Electric Membership Cooperative
