On behalf of the Wisconsin Federation of Cooperatives (WFC), I am writing to urge the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) to approve the proposal for a .co-op top-level domain.

WFC is a statewide trade association that promotes the common interests of a wide variety of cooperatives in legislation, education and public relations.  WFC represents over 700 rural and urban cooperatives thoughout Wisconsin, including rural electric, dairy, farm supply, insurance, credit, health care and consumer cooperatives.

The National Cooperative Business Association (NCBA) and Poptel are proposing .co-op with the full endorsement of the International Cooperative Alliance.

WFC believes it is critical that co-ops have an opportunity to clearly identify themselves to consumers and others who prefer to do business with cooperative businesses.  While many cooperatives use .com or .org, neither accurately characterizes co-ops to Internet users.

As unique, member-owned businesses that put service ahead of profit, cooperatives have earned the trust of hundreds of millions people throughout the world, and consumers need a way to easily identify cooperatives businesses on the Internet.  With cooperatives operating in virtually all industries, in 100 countries, and in both rural and urban areas, .co-op will apply to approximately 750,000 cooperatives worldwise.  We urge you to move quickly to approve .co-op as a top-level domain  Thank you for your consideration.
