<<< The message on pre-registrations might be a prelude to ICANN's thoughts on dealing with the registrations at IOD.  I suspect that ICANN is considering awarding .Web to both IOD and Afilias (a partial compromise to Afilias in my opinion).  In addition, ICANN may be considering disallowing registrations with IOD to appease Afilias' concern about having a level playing field.  The pieces to the puzzle are slowly being put in place.  No proof, just a hunch...  >>

You can't just MERGE a company into a conglomeration like that. More specifically, ICANN can't do it FOR them. ICANN can't just go up to Ambler and the powers within Afilias, and say, "Oh, and you guys are merging."

Nor is it likely that if such a thing were to happen, that the current .web registrants would just be dropped. Firstly, there is no reason that a merger would lead to that. Secondly, with IOD getting in there and us getting left behind, you can rest assured that everyone will be suing everyone. It would make for a terrible mess, and who wants THAT?

ICANN: Be an agency for the People as well as an agency devoted to corporate interests.

Bring IOD's .web into the Internet root, and allow .web to become the TLD of the People.

Then grant us protection.
