David, with all due respect, I think you are offering a spin that sounds good in order to justify the numbers.

1) Afilias is projecting 3M registrations the first year while spending $17M in marketing.  I think they can achieve this with $10M in marketing (the difference between profit and loss).  This is obvious to me.  So, why choose to lose money if you do not have to?  Poor management decision.  $17M million in marketing is just not that big of a budget, certainly not a global one.  Even, if you factor in your point about gaining future customers by such up front out-of-pocket measures, is 97% marketing to revenue reasonable for any sound business plan?

2) You can not base today's application fees vs. what NSI was able to charge under a monopolistic model.  $15 registry fees seem to high to you.  Besides comparing this fee to a monopolistic model, what is your justification?

you raise reasonable points...just ones I do not agree with.

Ray

you raise good points,

Ray
