With two masked consortiums, both with overlapping interests via CORE applying for .web after a four year legal wrangle with CORE over .web it comes as no coincidence.

The truth is that these groups do have a strangle hold on the internet at the moment. That is why the government asked ICANN to do what they are now doing - trying to increase competition.

If no one else had applied for .web then IOD would have it and it would challenge .com to its roots as well as perhaps .info and .site.

By applying for .web and others both companies have served to cloud the issue. If they really wanted .web they would have applied for it alone.

Both make provivion for not getting .web in the form of other profitable choices and would probably be happy if no one has .web.

It would remove their competition.

Afilias is associated with .com, .net, .org, .info, .site, .web, .biz and .nom

Neustar is associated with .site, .info, .web, .surf, .dot, .spot, .per, .biz and .au.

Competition is already limited enough thank you.
