Subject: THE TRUTH: Some trademarks will become invalid.

Message:

Did you ever think about why some companies
are extremely interested in stopping new gtlds?

No, not because they would like to get one of the
20'000 domain names aready registered with IODs or
anything alike, but:

It is again the trademark problem which causes the
major problems to them. Imagine: Someone registered
a .web name in 1996 or 1997. A company registered a
trademark, which could be conflicted by this name,
but the registration took place AFTER the .web name
was registered.
It would be impossible to stop the respective .web
name from being used. The trademark would be worthless.

But, if they swipe the database before entering .web
as a new gtld the late-coming trademark-registrars
get the earlier ticket: all trademark owners may
"legally" get their respective .web name during
whatever sunrise period or court action (if the current,
uncorrect practice will continue to be applied -
uncorrect, because an address has nothing to do with
trademarks).

Please note, that I speak AGAINST my own interest.
I own international trademarks and will be able to
profit from that, as well as from any sunrise period.

BUT NONETHELESS THIS IS HIGHLY UNFAIR PRACTICE
AND I DO NOT SUPPORT IT.

Of course I can understand, that most trademarkholders
have a major interest in the swiping of IODs and all
other databases, as their trademarks will become more
valuable through that. But I can't approve such action.

Just do not think that the swiping of databases will
happen "for the benefit of the Internet", if it happens.

Thank you.
