I am writing to express my support for a .coop TLD.  Such a domain will help interested parties identify and find cooperatives.  Market research in the United States has found that consumers have positive impressions of cooperatives and favor them when aware of the options.  The .coop TLD would be an additional tool to assist consumers and potential cooperative members in finding their desired option.  On a smaller point, it would be my hope that ".coop" and ".co-op" could both be provided as options that would point to the same page.  There are many people, particularly in the United States, where the preferred spelling is "cooperative" that consider "co-operative" or "co-op" a tad pedantic, as though people will confuse our organizations with chicken sheds unless provided the hyphen.  I'd also note that I've never seen a hyphen in the Spanish or Italian word "cooperativa."  I also wouldn't consider it great progress to go from a three-character .org or .com to five-character .co-op.
