Subject: PATA Supports IATA's Proposal

Message:

The Pacific Asia Travel Association supports IATA’s proposal to sponsor a “.travel” top level domain. Travel is one of the most significant industry sectors in the realm of e-commerce and online marketing. The establishment of a “.travel” TLD would go a long way in distinguishing our specific industry from the hubbub of “.com” sites.

As the sponsor of the “.travel” TLD, IATA has stated that it will work with all sectors of the travel community to develop clear policies and procedures, ensuring that domain registration is handled fairly, with a goal of building consumer confidence in the “.travel” TLD.

No industry sub-sector can exist in a vacuum. Hotels need airlines, airlines need travel agents, travel agents need destination marketing organisations, and so on. As a testament to the benefits of cooperation, the Pacific Asia Travel Association’s membership includes nearly 2,000 government tourist offices, destination promotion boards, airlines, cruise lines, hotels, tour operators, travel agencies and other travel-related businesses; our mission is to enhance the growth, value and quality of Pacific Asia travel and tourism on behalf of our members.

Based on past interaction and cooperation with IATA, the Pacific Asia Travel Association believes that IATA is well-positioned to sponsor the “.travel” TLD, and we applaud IATA for taking the lead.
