Subject: WTTC support to IATA ".travel"Application

Message:

On behalf of the World Travel & Tourism Council, I the undersigned hereby authorise IATA to present this statement of support (as shown below) for the ".travel" TLD to ICANN.

The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) supports the International Air Transport Association's (IATA) call to establish a Top Level Internet Domain for Travel (.tld). However, to guarantee that all sectors of the Travel & Tourism industry, beyond airlines and travel agencies, receive equal treatment, WTTC proposes that the domain be co-sponsored by WTTC.  By joining in partner ship for this operation license, WTTC will ensure that all sectors of the Travel & Tourism industry are properly represented.

Travel & Tourism is one of the world's most important and diverse economic activities, which spans across other economic sectors, contributing to employment creation and the generation of wealth on a local, national, regional and global scale. According to the World Travel & Tourism Council, Travel & Tourism activity accounts for 192.2 million jobs and represents US $ 3.6 trillion of the world's GDP.  IATA's proposal for a ".travel" TLD will help build recognition of the economic importance of travel & Tourism, reflecting the diversity of services which will come together under a single domain.

Both WTTC and IATA are global non-profit associations, who have worked together with the Travel & Tourism industry to ensure its competitive and sustainable development. Over the years, IATA has successfully endorsed accreditation for travel agents to ensure that they are equipped to provide consumers with knowledgeable and professional services.

Since our inception in 1990, WTTC's Members, which represent all sectors of the Travel & Tourism industry have worked together with public and private sectors across the globe to advance the development of Information Technology and E-commerce to benefit travel & Tourism businesses and consumers. The administration of the ".travel" TLD will be a natural extension to our organisation' commitment to increase consumer confidence and convenience in travel-related Internet trade.

Signed
