I'm sure Coca-Cola will register cocacola.web, and CNN will register cnn.news, but I doubt that it will be the big corporations rushing to register all the generics. Instead, it is likely to be domain speculators/cybersquatters who rush to register them. The big companies have already spent billions branding .com and I think that they'll have limited interest in new TLDs other than to protect their current marks. If you have evidence to the contrary, I'd consider reversing my position.

Regardless, the fact remains that if pre-registrations are not recognized, each and every individual and company will have EQUAL opportunity to obtain the name they want. It doesn't get any more fair than that.
