Subject: Will the US trademarks over ride other countries?

  As you know a trademark must be registered in each of the counties that it is to be used in.

It is possible that two or more companies have equal rights to a trademark and with lots of emphasis on globalisation I was wondering whether it was still first come first served?

I understand, for example, that "Microsoft" was a brand of underpants in Europe (they used to sell them in Asda before Walmart bought them (Asda - not the Underpants!) if anyone is interested.).
