Thank you for your intersting comments. I had similar thoughts about
2 years ago, but meanwhile I am convinced that we need both:
Unrestricted AND restricted domain names.

1. The .com gtld is partly restricted, if you keep all the reverse
domain name hijacking in mind that we are wittnessing right now.
Is it fair to have a big company take away the domain name from a
smaller company, because the name "sounds similar"?
These are new laws and new restrictions.

These new restrictions may be introduced in some new, restricted
gtlds, as .ltd, even though they are everything but fair.
But they should never be introduced in any new, unrestricted gtld.

2. 20'000 names were registered in .web, mainly by private people.
This IS an added value to the internet in my eyes.

Apart from that, hopefully many people will have a chance to register
relatively decent names in the new gtlds, maybe not the best names,
but still acceptable ones. This has become pretty difficult in .com.

3. The internet may become less complex than it is now, because all
gtlds would again be united in the same rood servers and you won't
need to change your settings over and over.

ICANN, it is time to clean up the mess and introduce new,
unrestricted gtlds. Maybe you think about it again, Mr. Du Bois.
Thank you.

Respectfully,
Friedrich Kisters

P.S.: I like Montreux very much!
