There is no reason to assume
that when IOD is given the .Web registry, as it should, that those names already
registered won't stand. After all, there is a little matter
of good faith and IANA.
What this translates to are possible
lawsuits, class action and otherwise, with the potential of "punitive damages," with
a judge and perhaps a jury to decide.
Now this makes little
sense, since the 20,000 names now registered would be swept up again within days
- nullifying any conceivable arguments for disallowing them in the first place.
So we have two directions, both of which end up in the same place,
one of which puts ICANN under the gun of major lawsuits, and the other does not.
Which way would you choose?
As I have said before
- 2 + 2 = 4, but only from my point of view. I'm not so sure about ICANN.
