From what I know about servers and datatransmission, IOD is technically able to handle 1 million registrations per month without any trouble. With todays technology, mainly the registering system counts, not the amount of registrations. We are no longer in 1991. IODs system seems to be well-thought and proven.

Of course I wouldn't advise IOD to start big advertizing as soon as they go live - but Afilias would certainly do massive propaganda for .web: Therefore we are talking about two different levels of risk, too. A breakdown with Aflias can't be excluded, either, given their potential advertizing power and the immediate and worldwide response to be expected, if Afilias promotes .web.

Maybe advertizing should be forbidden at all for the first 12 month.

Remember: In the first year, NSI went live, they didn't have so many registrations, either.

Regards,
Friedrich
