Subject: Afilias:Competition and Ken Stubbs

The Afilias proposal is simply a cover to expand and broaden a monopoly in gtld's.
There is currently no competition at the registry level and there can't be since network solutions is involved. I find the part of the afilias proposal that addresses competition
ridiculous,Compete against yourself!!!

Afilias faces competition from several potential competitors as an operator of a new gTLD. Afilias' competitors may include:

          Existing gTLDs and ccTLDs

Afilias will compete against the operators of the existing gTLD and ccTLD strings that enjoy a first-mover advantage, and that in some cases, have substantial financial resources to launch a counter-marketing campaign against the new gTLD

Even more disturbing is Ken Stubbs, Not only is he a board member of afilias. He's the top dog, the big cheese. Chairmen of the Executive Commitee. It is almost unbelievable to me that ICANN has not addressed the issue of conflict of interest and Ken Stubbs.

He has his hand in so many applications in one form or another.

Would you call his public position as Chairmen of the ICANN Names Council and his self interest in new TLD applications self dealing?

Kenyon Stubbs, Chairman of the Executive Committee, Internet Council of Registrars; Vice President, Domain Bank, Inc.; Chairman of the ICANN Names Council

Executive Committee

The three-person Executive Committee shall be chiefly responsible for supervising the executive officers of Afilias and liasoning with them to provide Board input on management issues. Members of the Executive Committee will be elected by the Board upon approval from ICANN to operate the new TLD.
