Subject: Explanation please...

Can someone explain to me, in simple language a normal internet user understands, exactly what the fundamental diference is between a .com and a .web, .info, .site, etc...

As a user, I understand that if I want to watch tv, I go to or - and when I want information on the programs, I go to or yahoo.event, then when I want to check something about an actor, I go to actors-name.per and if I want to but the book that inspired the movie I go to

Well, having gone to 4 or 5 sites to do something I can do today with just one .com, when could I use the .web?

This is a bit simplistic but can someone give me a serious answer?
