ICANN, in their autocractic fashion, has defaulted to a wrong-headed methodology for the selection of TLD's.  Rather than providing leadership, and providing the web with a functional taxonomy of TLD's that make sense, they pimped the selection process out to deep pocket entrepenuers.  Such an inductive approach is dysfunctional and will ultimately destroy the WEB.  A deductive taxonomic approach, with function in mind would have been better.  For instance, .MD for licensed medical doctors, .RN for Registered Nurses, .PHD for holders of PHD's, .CPA for accountants, .SEX for sexual information, and .PORN for pornographers, etc. would have worked better.
