.com was never meant to be generic. .com was for communication. It was the first and therefore it became generic.

The whole reason we are here is that the first top level domains have become saturated and so we need more.

Some should be generic for sure .web, .site and so forth.

Others should perhaps be more specific .shop, .biz for example.

To get to this stage and then say that .web would bring nothing to the internet suggests that you underestimate its potential.
