"IOD has put together a small but very vocal lobbying force who are making a mockery of what is supposed to be an open discussion of the range of different proposals. To ICANN: (as I am sure is already clear to you) the discussions on this board have absolutely no bearing on what would best serve the average "joe internet user" and should be ignored."

So, apparently, you are implying

1) a domain consortium headed by NSI will be best equipped to serve the average user, even though their technology is antiquated and making a simple DNS or contact name change takes several weeks instead of a day or two
2) the Internet was just formed yesterday, so we can reasonably assume a clean slate and ignore the fact there have been real people  in a real company named IOD pursuing worldwide adoption of .WEB for over 4 years.
3) A sunrise period is good for the average Internet user even though WIPO already sides with trademark holders 80% of the time

Okay, so you have been managed to compress into just a few sentences an abundance of ignorant opinion and belief.

Whether you like IOD or not, they were around 4 years ago trying to get .WEB adopted, AND Afilias' ability to deliver "equity" somehow through a shared registry system really has little basis in reality.
NSI still has major residual components of it being a monopoly and even today engages in domain hourding to the protestations of the Internet community.

Nice disdain, but you have no argument, just contempt in an effort to imply specialized knowledge and understanding.

Sorry.
